Exploring a circular design thinking education program for the arts

LDD conducts assignments, workshops, discussions and internship programs for art students with circular design thinking concepts incorporated. The aim for these assignments is to allow the students to generate their own subconscious sustainable pattern in their nascent stage of their practice. Some of the assignments are design in manner that the students start by questioning the types of materials they use or could use, where they source the material from, how they use it and what happens when it’s done?

Along with these assignments’ students have access to the LDD swap shops where they can practice the basics circler design thinking on a practical level. Through interactive happenings, events, classes, internship programs and social media platforms the project is expanding.

  1. Artist statement; wat is je specialisme, wat maakt jouw werk uniek?

    ARTIST STATEMENT

As an artist and mother my concerns for the environment and love for the arts intertwine. The role art plays in society to affect and create change over time is a driving force in my practice. This fuels my fascination to research, explore and develop artistic ventures that
    instigate ecological and social change.

My modus operandi is to create playful experiences and experimental engagements around these issues. This triggers the subconscious mind on different levels, ideas are explored, new things are discovered and developed. As a result, my work is multi-disciplinary in its forms.

Some projects require time and nurturing, so another stage of my process is to research and customise platforms or communal actives to foster and facilitate growth.

My practice entails working with art institutions, collectives, art academies, galleries and public spaces. Developing customisable projects that surround a social or ecological subject. Collaborating, researching, experimenting and working from within the contexts of the local environment and culture.

  2. Wat zijn je ambities? Wat wil je over vijf jaar bereikt hebben?

The arts are perceived as a tool to spur society at large towards creative alternatives for a better future, with this ideology in mind, it is my goal to play a role within the arts to facilitate ecological change. My path starts first from working within art academies and institutions to instigate a higher level of ecological sustainability within the everyday actions, reinforcing the arts to set, by example, the standards by which society can draw inspiration from. My five-year goals include, infusing circular design thinking methods into the education system in combination with developing platforms that foster cross over ecological activities and ventures within the arts.

  3. Wat is het belangrijkste dat je hebt geleerd tijdens je studie?

During my studies I’ve discovered the value and privilege it is to indulge one’s senses in the arts. This has compelled me to use the knowledge I’ve gained to transfer change within my surroundings. I’ve also seen the strength in doing crossover projects with different studies and methods within the arts for a well-rounded result.
